In-Office Tumescent Liposuction

Accumulated fat cells in adults tend to increase over the years, and fat is usually distributed according to a genetically predisposed pattern. In other words, the genes you inherited determine whether you will tend accumulate fat in your hips (pear shape) or your abdomen (apple shape).

Once the fat cells have developed, they are often resistant to exercise and dieting. Dieting only shrinks fat cells; the only way to completely get rid of fat cells is to remove them. Liposuction is one such method of permanent fat removal.

The Tumescent Technique of Liposuction removes fat cells through a small stainless steel tube, called a cannula. The cannula is connected to a specialized suction pump inserted through tiny skin incisions. Large volumes of a dilute solution of lidocaine (a local anesthetic), in combination with the vasoconstrictive drug epinephrine (which shrinks the capillaries, reducing excessive bleeding and bruising) allow the patient to be awake during the entire procedure. Fat cells removed by liposuction do not grow back. As long as the patient does not gain excessive amounts of weight after the procedure, the results will be permanent.

Tumescent Liposuction is considered to be the safest form of liposuction for removing large amounts of fat because there is virtually no blood loss. It is less painful, has minimized postoperative recovery time, and has produced optimal cosmetic results!
